Alaska Outdoor Books is a division of Great Northwest
Publishing and Distributing Co., Inc. The company was begun in 1979,
after its founder, Marvin Clark, had been told by a New York City
literary agent that his manuscript was "unsaleable" because he
had dared to write favorably about Alaska hunting. In fact, the "expert"
even opined in writing that Clark’s script violated the very
"sensibilities of the American people," because it expressed
feelings about hunting that could never be communicated in print.
|
Of course, young Clark merely was confronting a "liberal"
enforcer from the socialist camp, who was doing his best to censor
Alaska hunting and gun ownership out of American culture. Events soon
proved the literary agent wrong, and today, Clark’s book has become
a classic of American hunting literature. In fact, Pinnell and
Talifson: Last of the Great Brown Bear Men," has been printed
twelve times, and has been ordered by people from over fifty
countries, on six continents. Big game hunters world wide
acknowledge Clark's work and it's value for preserving big game
hunting as we have known it. Today, the book remains one of the
most popular hunting books published in the United States.
|
As a result of Clark’s convictions and determination, Great
Northwest Publishing now is able to offer hunters and outdoorsmen
its "Alaska Outdoor Books" library. Each volume is a carefully
selected work, written by an authentic Alaska Big game hunting and outdoor
authority. Each also has been printed and bound with a view towards
quality of materials and workmanship. Each is "smythe sewn," so as
to hold together for years of use and enjoyment. |
|
We here at Great Northwest Publishing take pride in our Alaska
Outdoor Books library. We wish you, the American outdoor reader, all
the best as you begin to collect our books. We hope you'll also
experience Alaska hunting at its finest! |
