TRACK OF THE KODIAK chronicles the author's foot-journey through Kodiak Island's most remote Brown Bear country. During that sojourn, he visited Pinnell and Talifson hunting camps, and once again enjoyed the thrills and adventures of Kodiak hunting at its finest. The author's trek resulted in many hunting tales from Pinnell and Talifson, and was the ultimate basis for extensive research into Kodiak Island's past -from prehistoric times to the present.

In this volume the author explores Kodiak Brown bear territory with Pinnell and Talifson, describes the Brown bears' habits and haunts, and provides a graphic manual on Brown Bear hunting and outfitting for hunters everywhere. This book follows the author's previous work, entitled Pinnell and Talifson: LAST OF THE GREAT BROWN BEAR MEN (1980), which contains the biographical sketch of those two famous Brown Bear guides. Many more original Pinnell and Talifson Kodiak Brown bear hunting stories are provided in TRACK OF THE KODIAK, including the epic 1967 hunt of Prince Abdorizzi Pahlavi, brother to the late Shah of Iran. Together, the two volumes comprise the most comprehensive treatise ever written on Kodiak Brown Bear and the men who hunt them.

ABOUT THE COVER PHOTO

The huge Brown Bear was taken by Dave Connor in 1957, on one of p & T's more outstanding hunts, It originally was listed as Brown Bear #13 in the Boone and Crockett Club "record book," and remains, to this day, one of the largest Kodiaks ever taken. The photograph was taken by Charles Dietzel, with black and white film. It was hand-colored by David R. Sams, of Spokane, Washington.
