Col. Phillip F. Neuweiler, heir to Neuweiler brewery of Pennsylvania, spent 50 years hunting big game in the Far North. With more than 40 bears to his credit, Col. Neuweiler took several world-record class Polar bears. He also took large Kodiak Brown bears, Grizzley bears, Polar bears, Walrus, Moose, Caribou, Stone sheep, Dall sheep, Fannin sheep and Bighorn sheep. Col. Neuweiler was a trophy hunting purest, although he personally refused to participate in traditional "record book" competition. His hunts usually lasted 40-60 days, but he never refused to return home empty- handed rather than kill lesser specimens. Col. Neuweiler's decision to write this book was made late in his life, as an effort to contribute his vast storehouse of knowledge to future hunters and to counter the shallowness of outdoor writers in the 1960' sand 70’s. The contents of this book include hunting topics for species already mentioned, as well as chapters on living in the wilderness, making a successful hunt, and back- woods medicine. This book is a true classic, rarely matched amongst Alaska big game hunting titles. © 1989 By Douglas G. LaPasta and Cecelia Piff |
